Peer-Reviewed Publishing through the JASDL

Courseware Material to enhance lectures, seminars, case studies and recitation sections of classroom and web (virtual) courses. These include innovative problems, data sets and scenarios.

Labware Innovative laboratory experiments, courses, and approaches, even entire laboratory "books" can be published. ASDL's first publication, Rob Thompson's instrumental analysis lab manual based on a forensic analysis theme, falls into this category.

Educational Practices Papers, software and critical analyses of teaching methods related to analytical pedagogy belong in this category.

Process:

1. Suitability of Content. The JASDL seeks to publish original materials to enhance the pedagogy of Analytical Sciences and related areas. To be considered for publication, the submitted material must be original, and the author must certify that no copyrighted material is included unless permission has been obtained from the copyright holder for unlimited, royalty free distribution and modification.

All submissions within the scope of the Library are peer-reviewed, and may be accepted, rejected, or remanded to the author for revision. The Library only publishes items that can be freely exchanged and adapted to the needs of each learning community. This is typically the Creative Commons license, which reserves all economic rights to the original author, but otherwise allows free copying, distribution, and alteration of content provided the original author is acknowledged and changes are identified. For authors whose institutions forbid use of the Creative Commons license, the editor should be consulted to determine if alternative licensing is compatible with the openness of this Library.

2. Posting. Contact the JASDL online articles editor to introduce your article. If the idea seems plausible for ASDL you will be given a login to the ASDL system where you will upload your most recent version of the article as either a .pdf or .doc file. Items in other file formats (e.g. HTML, streaming video, etc.) are welcome. The best route for submission should be determined in consultation with the editor. The editor will automatically be emailed with a notification of a new article submission. No hard-copy transmission is needed.

3. License. Conspicuous in header material in the posted file should be a statement of and hotlink to the Creative Commons license (noncommercial, attribution. (See Creative Commons).

4. Review. The editor will arrange for peer review, just as if this were a normal, hard-copy publication. At least two appropriate experts will be asked to comment on the quality, appropriateness, and content of your article or teaching materials.

5. Revision. Reviews will be returned to the author and revision in light of the reviews recommended.

6. Acceptance. When the revision is finished, the author will upload the final copy of the article in the same manner as it was submitted. An email will automatically be sent to the editor upon successful upload. If found to meet the standards of the Analytical Sciences Digital Library as judged by the editor and reviewers, the posted material will be posted on www.asdlib.org, and archived.
