Goals
Upon completion of this module,
- Students will be able to select an appropriate analog to digital converter for a particular measurement situation
- Students will be able to critique selections already made by someone else for a converter in an instrument, including explanation or computation of:
- Useful resolution
- Noise or signal-to-noise ratio
- Distortion and aliasing
- Consequently, students will be able to explain how much chemical information is being accurately reported by a digital instrument, how much additional information is available but is missed because of instrument design, or what measurement errors and misunderstandings are a consequence of a digitization scheme.
